Using RFId in food industry
In food industry RFId technology improves productivity and cost efficiency. By using RFId the number of manual and slow worksteps can be minimised. This means more resources available for other activities and the process will be more efficient. Automated identification, thus less human errors, outputs increased work and product quality.
Automated identification produces information, which can be used for controlling production and storage. The same data can also be used e.g. in quality control, monitoring products' origin and to create new value added service models for customers.
Case Valio Oy cheese production
Solution was provided by ToP Tunniste. RFId tags were installed in cheese moulds, where encapsulated tags fullfil the requirements of the manufacturing process, wet enviroment and cleaning process of moulds. Industrial RFId readers were installed along production line.
RFId solution in cheese production has turned out to be succesfull and the project reached the pre-set targets. With using RFId it has been possible to minimize the workload and loss of incredients. The return of investment will be reached quick.
RFId technology was implemented for AS Võru Juust cheese factory in spring 2008. AS Võru Juust is the leading cheese producer in Estonia. The production site is located in city of Tartu. The company is subsidiary of Finland's largest milk processor Valio. Võru Juust's turnover is 33 milion Euros and number of personnel is 144. (source: www.valio.fi 2008-06-19)
Also Haapavesi cheese factory is using RFId to improve their production process. Cheese factory in Haapavesi intakes milk annually 176 miljon liters. Number of personnel is 120. (source: www.valio.fi)
